Do Insurance Companies Cover Termite Damage?

You may not realise that most Insurance companies will not cover remedial or repair costs of damage caused by termites, if regular inspections and or treatments are not conducted, or some potentially won’t cover it at all. So it’s VITAL that you have your home regularly (recommended annually) checked for termite activity and damage.

Termites also known as ‘white ants’ live in the ground and cause more damage to homes in Australia than, fire, floods, storms & tempest combined.  CSIRO Survey indicates about 1 in 3 dwellings have termites within the property boundary.

Being a highly destructive timber pest, they can consume a ”2 by 4” inch piece of lumber over a period of 3-5 months. Imagine how quickly they can destroy the wall and roof timber of your property if you are not aware, they are there. It doesn’t take long for termites to ‘nest’ and an infestation can take place as little as within a few days.

Shocking as these facts are, you can prevent this by ensuring your property has an annual Termite inspection and/ or barrier treatment. Engaging a reputable pest control contractor will ensure your property is well protected and whilst there it might be a good idea to have a general pest spray done to cover spiders, cockroaches and ants especially as this is the season the creepy crawlies come out.
